Ron Parks Does Q&A with Marin Independent Journal

Our founder, Ron Parks, recently did a Q&A with the Marin Independent Journal.

Q: Can you tell me where and how to find property value percentages now, compared to 10 years ago, in Marin, and specifically in San Anselmo?

A: Ron Parks, a board member of the Bay Area Real Estate Information Services that manages the multiple listings for the North Bay, says anyone can access historical sales trends online.

Go to www.bareis.com and click on the section that reads "Greathomes.org". At the next page, click on the icon "Sales Statistics." At the next page click on "Residential Sales Statistics by Year." The final page gives links to the data you need; the fourth link from the top provides statistics for Novato, Ross, San Anselmo and San Rafael from 1965 to 2007.

"You can obtain historical information for number of units sold, the average and median prices, for all cities in Marin and Solano County, going back (in some cases) to 1965," Parks says.

"From 1997 to 2007, the average price in San Anselmo increased from $416,000 to $1,056,000," he says. "This is a 153 percent increase or an average increase of 15.3 percent per year. The median price of a house in San Anselmo went from $380,000 to $921,000, a 142 percent increase."
