Marin County School Update
One of the reasons parents decide to move to Marin County are the schools their children are able to attend. Schools in
Marin County are always ahead of the curve, with more than 80% of Marin students having met or exceeded
all academic progression requirements.
However, almost twice as many schools, compared to the previous year, in Marin County failed to meet the basic requirements. A
total of seven schools did not meet the required mandates and the blame is on raised standards for those who are learning
English as a second language.
Schools in Marin County continue to rank amongst the best in California. An elementary school in Tiburon (Bel Aire Elementary) ranked the highest and
ranked higher compared to the previous year. Other areas that ranked the highest were schools in
Kentfield (Bacich Elementary),
Larkspur (Hall Middle School),
San Rafael (Glenwood Elementary) and yet another school in
Tiburon (
Del Mar Middle School).
The areas in Marin County that had some of the lowest scores were San Rafael (San Rafael High School) and Novato
(Novato's Lynwood Elementary). Both schools are now slated for scholastic improvements.
Even though there is a sense of pride for the schools that scored very high in Marin County, the belief is that the
scores only represent one aspect of student achievement. What a student does in the classroom, a student's homework
habits and how that student observes are all factors that help put the scores and testing into perspective.
