Open House Ideas in Marin County
Planning to sell your Marin County home? This week we are going to give you a few tips on
decorating your home in Marin and getting it ready for an open house.
Create the Appearance of Space For starters, it is always best
to make sure your furniture is arranged to create as much traffic flow as possible. Sometimes, you
may even need to take out a piece of furniture. The key is to make your rooms appear as open as possible.
Turn the Lights On
Once that is done, take a look at your lighting. To create even more of an illusion of space, try opening all
the blinds in the room. The more light, the better. Another trick is done with mirrors. Try strategically placing
a mirror, in a smaller room, and arrange it so that it is reflecting some light. This also, as ridiculous as it may sound,
creates an added sense of space. They do so by not only reflecting natural light, but also reflecting artificial.
The bigger the mirror, the better! A big mirror can accomplish more than a smaller one, so start big. Lastly, put in
high-watt bulbs in the rooms, which will create more light and, in turn, create that added depth that we
are going for. Most importantly, don't forget to turn on all the light switches in the rooms, on the day of your
open house.
Clean up the Clutter
Personal items such as pictures and awards should be taken down and boxed up. By depersonalizing your home, you help
potential homebuyers begin their process of personalizing your home. If there is any clutter in the house like books, magazines,
toys, or any item that you could view as potentially being defined as clutter, box it up. Be aware, with smaller rooms,
you can't afford any clutter.
Draw People into Your Home
Creating a focal point in your Marin home is central to optimizing your chances of a sale. A fireplace, a bed in the bedroom,
dining room table, or maybe you have an island in your kitchen. Whatever the focal piont in the room is, put things around it
that are tasteful, but also draw the person in. A large painting over the fireplace, or a display on the kitchen island, or maybe a
large mirror behind the bed. The point is, whatever advantages your home offers, make sure the potential homebuyers know about it.
