An Architect May Be Right for Your Marin Home

You have been living in your Marin home for a few years and, not unlike most people, you begin to think about remodeling your home. But this time you are not thinking of just changing the lighting in the living room. You are wanting to do something major. Something that alters the way you use your home and brings life to it.

Whatever your dream project may be, you will probably benefit from using a licensed architect. You may be thinking that an architect may cost too much money, or that they are only hired to handle homes that are worth millions. However, a good architect will help plan, evaluate and more than likely go far beyond the call of duty.

Most of us, when thinking about an architectual design think mostly about the finished results. The trained architect looks within the project, the infrastructure of the home remodeling and will make sure everything is up to standard building code requirements.

There are usually a few snags here and there, but a good architect will be able to problem solve and find a solution to whatever the problem may be. If changes need to be made in the middle of the construction process, changes can be made without jeopardizing your idea, or wallet.

The true benefit of an architect is their ability to see the larger picture and all the small steps it takes to make it happen. Not only will they find the ideal proportions, but they are trained to create something that will compliment your current architecture. They are also skilled at refining an original plan that will allow you to envision the project for yourself. Your initial meeting will focus mostly on your plans and coming to an agreement on the design. From there, you will begin to see more and more drawings / schematics. Make sure that your architect makes it very clear what each set of drawings will include. The initial drawings may seem to be lacking in specifics, but don't worry, each set thereafter will include more details.

In the end, it is up to you. You have the option to have your architect be involved as much, or little as possible. You may just want to have them involved in the design process and no more. However, for an additional fee you may want to hire your architect to oversee the project. This would include the hiring of subcontractors, scheduling and making sure everything is done to correct specifications. In closing, the most important factor is choosing the right architect for you. By viewing photos of their past projects, you will be able to tell if their style is your own.
